Conservative Perspective on Health Care Reform
Moderate Perspective on Health Care Reform In spite of prominent attitude, moderates do to be sure accept there is a requirement for social insurance change. In the event that there is one thing whereupon Republicans, Democrats, dissidents, and preservationists can concur, it is that the human services framework in America is broken. The issue, at that point, is the thing that precisely is broken about it. Nonconformists by and large accept the best way to fix the framework is for the legislature to work it, the manner in which Canada and the United Kingdom run their frameworks by means of all inclusive human services. Traditionalists, then again, can't help contradicting this thought and fight that the American government is completely unequipped to take on such an immense undertaking, and regardless of whether it were, the subsequent administration would be awfully wasteful like most government programs.Conservatives arent just naysayers, in any case. Their arrangement is increasingly hopeful in tone since they accept the cu rrent framework can be fixed with change estimates, for example, advancing rivalry between medical coverage and pharmaceutical organizations, transforming the Medicare installment framework, setting up away from of care and closure the lottery court framework by topping harm grants requested by politically motivated justices. Most recent Developments Democrats on Capitol Hill have been drifting the idea of a solitary payer medicinal services framework like the ones right now practically speaking in Canada and the United Kingdom.Conservatives resolutely restrict this thought in light of the fact that paying little mind to what movie producer Michael Moore says government-run human services frameworks are famously moderate, wasteful and costly. Before he was chosen in 2008, President Barack Obama vowed to spare the average American family $2,500 every year by improving the protection showcase and making a National Health Insurance Exchange. In his official statements, the president guarantees the Obama/Biden plan will Make Health Insurance Work for People and Businesses Not Just Insurance and Drug Companies. The National Health Insurance Exchange is apparently demonstrated after the Congressional medical advantages plan. The arrangement would permit bosses to decrease their premiums by exchanging the greater part of their representat ives over to the administration program (obviously non-unionized specialists would have nothing to do with the issue by any stretch of the imagination). The new nationalized medicinal services plan would then assimilate these new individual human services costs, swelling a previously overburdened central government much further. Foundation Expenses encompassing the human services industry are swelled by three extremely specific components, two of which include the protection business. As a result of (by and large) silly court settlements that make a genuine lottery for offended parties looking for harms, obligation protection for medicinal services suppliers is crazy. On the off chance that specialists and other clinical experts need to proceed to work and produce a benefit, they regularly must choose the option to charge over the top expenses for their administrations, which are then passed along to the customers insurance agency. Insurance agencies, thusly, raise premiums on the buyers. Doctor and buyer protection plans comprise two of the guilty parties in the significant expense of human services, yet both are connected straightforwardly what's going on in American courtrooms. When shopper insurance agencies get the bills for these significant expense administrations, it is to their greatest advantage to discover re asons not to pay or repay the guaranteed. By and large, these organizations can't effectively stay away from installment (on the grounds that by and large the administrations are therapeutically fundamental), so the purchaser as well as the safeguarded shoppers boss encounters an ascent in medicinal services protection premiums, also. Main concern: politically motivated justices, looking to commute home a point or make a case of a specific doctor, join to drive up the expenses of risk protection, which thusly drives up the expenses of social insurance insurance.Unfortunately, these issues with the human services framework are exacerbated by a wild pharmaceutical industry. When a pharmaceutical producer makes a significant disclosure and effectively brings another prescription into the medicinal services showcase, the prompt interest for that drug makes a lopsided ascent in cost. Its insufficient for these makers to make a benefit, these makers must rake in huge profits (truly, when certain purchasers can't bear the cost of the drug they need). There are pills that cost upwards of $100 each in the retail showcase, yet cost under $10 per pill to make. At the point when the insurance agencies get the bill for these over the top expensive drugs, it is in their inclination to endeavor to figure out how to abstain from en grossing those expenses. Between over the top doctor charges, extreme pharmaceutical expenses and extravagant medical coverage expenses, shoppers regularly can't bear the cost of the social insurance they need. The Need for Tort Reform The principle guilty party in the fight over medicinal services costs is the broad harm grants given out by politically motivated justices consistently the nation over. Because of these swelled honors, litigants planning to maintain a strategic distance from a court appearance are left with no other choice than expanded settlements.Conservatives acknowledge, obviously, that much of the time there are sensible objections against suppliers who misdiagnose, blunder or disregard a customers legitimate treatment. Weve all heard the loathsomeness tales about specialists who befuddle patients, leave utensils inside medical procedure patients, or make a deplorable misdiagnosis. One approach to guarantee offended parties get equity, while keeping medicinal services costs from turning out to be misleadingly expanded is to grow away from of care to which all doctors must withstand, and relegate away from as sensible monetary harms for penetrates of those gauges and different transgressions. This may sound shockingly like the idea of required least condemning, however it isn't. Rather, it sets most extreme common punishments, which judges may force, with the greatest punishments being granted for conditions bringing about illegitimate passings. For more than one offense, more than one punishment would apply. Such rules could likewise ask legal advisers to be inventive; expecting suppliers to perform explicit network administration or, on account of doctors, free work for a particular fragment of society.Presently, lawful lobbyists have made overwhelming tops on harms for all intents and purposes outlandish. Attorneys have a personal stake in getting the most extreme punishment conceivable, since their expenses are frequently a level of the settlement or grant. Sensible lawful expenses ought to likewise be incorporated with any framework putting tops on punishments to guarantee settlements or grants really go to proposed parties. Unrestrained legal advisor charges and unimportant claims do as a lot to drive up the significant expenses of human services as th e shocking harms granted by politically motivated justices. The Need for Competition Numerous preservationists accept families, people and organizations ought to have the option to buy medical coverage across the country to increase rivalry for their business and give an assortment of choices.Further, people ought to be allowed to acquire protection secretly or through associations of their decision: bosses, holy places, proficient affiliations or others. Such arrangements would consequently overcome any barrier among retirement and Medicare qualification and spread various years.More decisions in inclusion is only one part of a free-advertise human services framework. Another is permitting customers to search for treatment alternatives. This would advance rivalry among ordinary and elective suppliers and make patients the focal point of care. Allowing suppliers to rehearse across the country additionally would fabricate authentic national markets and give customers more noteworthy duty in their own medicinal services decisions.Competition guarantees people in genera l is better taught about protection social insurance and treatment choices. It powers suppliers to be increasingly straightforward in regards to clinical results, nature of care and the expenses of treatment. It likewise implies increasingly serious valuing. Lesser quality suppliers get got rid of, on the grounds that like somewhere else in the free-showcase economy they get valued out of misbehavior protection and have no real way to raise their costs. Creating national norms of care to gauge and record medicines and results guarantees just top-quality suppliers stay in business.Dramatic changes in Medicare would need to enhance a free-showcase human services framework. Under this situation, the Medicare installment framework, which remunerates suppliers for counteraction, conclusion and care, would need to be upgraded into a layered framework, with suppliers not being paid for preventable clinical mistakes or mismanagement.Competition in the pharmaceutical market would drive down medication costs and extend less expensive nonexclusive medication options. S ecurity conventions allowing the re-importation of medications would keep rivalry in the medication business overwhelming, too. In all instances of social insurance rivalry, the buyer would be secured through implementation of government assurances against arrangement, unreasonable business activities and beguiling purchaser rehearses. Where It Stands Democrats in the US House and Senate are getting ready enactment that would incorporate government-sponsored protection plan and would require people and organizations to be secured or face money related penalties.Obamas vision of a National Health Insurance Exchange is a bit nearer to the real world, while the country is a bit nearer to all inclusive wellbeing care. The governments entrance into the medical coverage market could spell catastrophe for private back up plans, which would be not able to contend. Including further inconveniences for the private health care coverage industry are new orders remembered for the bill that would forestall insurance agencies from denying inclusion to people dependent on their clinical history. In different words, Democrats need to make a general medical coverage program that rivals private c

Such watchfulness doesnââ¬â¢t simply occur, which is the reason for each story like Infantââ¬â¢s, thereââ¬â¢s most likely three or four that address the risks of creep. Need a model? Think about the Big Dig, the expressway undertaking to put Bosonââ¬â¢s focal supply route underground, in which degree changes were very calmly consented to when they were seen by any means. We will compose a custom exposition test on Will Project Creep Cost You Or Create Value or then again any comparative subject just for you Request Now Development for this venture started in 1991 and should take 10 years and cost $4. 9 billion. Current projections recommend that increasingly sensible figures are, at least, 14 years and $14. 6 billion. You treat each undertaking as completely interesting, none of the gaining starting with one anticipate then onto the next ?which basically has to do with perceiving designs ?moves over,â⬠says Steven Wheelwright, an educator and senior partner dignitary at Harvard Business School (HOBS) whose exploration centers around item and procedure advancement. Also, exactly what is this applicable realizing Wheelwright is alluding to? Discussions with venture supervisors who have a reputation of progress underscore the significance of embracing, in the underlying arranging stage, key systems, rules, and structures to guarantee: ; The correct individuals have characterized the projectââ¬â¢s scope. ; The projectââ¬â¢s limits have been strongly portrayed. ; The effect of expected modifications or slippage can be immediately determined. In the usage stage, the test is to sort out the work to limit the intrinsic vulnerabilities. Regardless of whether youââ¬â¢re the director or the official supporter of any significant task, a strong approach thatââ¬â¢s delicate to crawl can make it simpler for you to choose, at the time, which undertaking add-particles to express yes to and which to pass on. The arranging stage An astonishing number of ventures get going without an intensive endeavor to characterize their boundaries, specs, and execution attributes. Flurry is the central offender here, says Dave Nonfat, who brings 40 years of industry venture the board understanding to his job as Enron tasks counsel at HOBS and undertaking chief for the remodel of one of the schoolââ¬â¢s primary study hall structures. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s a base lead time that all ventures require,â⬠says Nonfat, and itââ¬â¢s the obligation of the projectââ¬â¢s supervisor to realize what that lead time is and to guarantee that it not pressed. Here are the key assignments of the arranging stage: Differentiate scope from reason. As you characterize the boundaries of a task, its basic to isolate its extension from its motivation. ââ¬Å"A projectââ¬â¢s reason for existing is the general advantage it will give to the organization,â⬠clarifies Alex Walton, a Winter Park, AAA. For instance, a projectââ¬â¢s reason might be to make another food thing that will build deals by $20 million. Be that as it may, the group building up the item has to recognize what includes the item should have and what the spending plan for creating the item will be. This is the data that a three-to four-sentence report known as a degree proclamation gives; it expl ains how the group means to make progress and, in this way, the measures on which it will be assessed. Include key partners. Ensure that you have the opportune individuals characterizing the projectââ¬â¢s scope. ââ¬Å"If you donââ¬â¢t have all the influenced partners and patrons at the table, it is possible that you wonââ¬â¢t get a precise recognizable proof of the basic conditions and functionalities or you wonââ¬â¢t have the individuals who can guarantee that the undertaking cuts to those basic conditions and functionalities,â⬠says Brian Dobby, an Enron venture director for Meddles, a Mason, Ohio-based auxiliary of Custodianshipââ¬â¢s, who manages the establishment of gadgets frameworks in social insurance offices. Thus, itââ¬â¢s critical to incorporate ââ¬Å"the end clients point of view and needs when youââ¬â¢re investigating the usefulness thatââ¬â¢s required,â⬠says Wheelwright. In the redesign of Baker Library at HOBS, for instance, venture organizers requested workforce membersââ¬â¢ contribution about the models of the new office spaces that were being intended for them. Plan in the total. Getting the opportune individuals engaged with characterizing the extension ND committing adequate chance to the task arranging stage arenââ¬â¢t enough to guarantee that the venture has clear limits, in any case. Associations additionally need to do total undertaking planning,â⬠says Wheelwright, ââ¬Å"in which they build up a methodology that spreads out an example and cadence for when ensuing ventures will happen. â⬠This is particularly significant for new item advancement. Without such a calendar for future tasks, an item engineer with another thought can develop worr ied that it will never be actualized; accordingly, thereââ¬â¢s a solid allurement for the designer to attempt to slip that thought into the item thatââ¬â¢s as of now in position ?paying little mind to its effect on the expense and timetable. The investigation of earlier ventures fills in as a significant assistant to total arranging. For instance, study the previous 1 0 inward IT anticipates your organization has embraced what examples rise? The discoveries can assist you with distinguishing and better get ready for potential difficulty spots in the IT anticipates that are on the agenda for the coming years. Set the standards. One final bit Of work in the arranging stage that can limit the odds of venture creep includes making cushions or decides that make it hard for huge hanged to happen without cognizant conversation and endorsement. For example: ; Set up a change control board. In exceptionally organized task situations, such a gathering is liable for ââ¬Å"gathering data about the effect that a proposed change will have on the timetable, financial plan, or degree; deciding on the proposed change; and afterward sending a solicitation for-change record on for the undertaking sponsorsââ¬â¢ signature,â⬠says Bob Tartan, a senior expert who represents considerable authority in IT and media communications ventures for Haverford, dad. - based PM Solutions. Along these lines, for an IT anticipate influencing the business, promoting, and coordinations divisions, the change introduction board would contain ranking directors from every one of these units. Review of Literature essays
Survey of Literature articles Has anybody at any point pondered about how quick things rot? Well I have begun an undertaking to discover. I have chosen to take 4 pots and fill them with earth. I will at that point cover a crude potato 3D shape at various profundities and mind the potato each 2-3 weeks. Photos will be taken and looked at. This theme will probably help ranchers who develop certain crude harvests. To begin with, I will discuss my autonomous variable. It is the profundity of the crude potato 3D square. Profundity is characterized from the word reference as the nature of being profound. The size of the crude potato shape will be 2cm by 2cm by 2cm. The profundity will be 4 inches, 6 inches, and 7 inches each in isolated pots. Next, I will clarify the reliant variable, the pace of rot of the crude potato solid shape. This will be recognized by the physical attributes of the crude potato 3D square. The disintegration of yield buildup, subsequent to gathering the harvest result of affordable significance, and change of natural nitrogen (N) into ammonium (NH4) and nitrate (NO3) structures (N mineralization) give wellsprings of plant accessible N. The reason for this investigation was to gauge the commitment of N from mineralization of yield deposits following the collect of either corn, wheat, or potato in a commonplace potato creation locale in the PNW. Third, it will be clarified how the IV influences the DV. The profundity may change the rot pace of the crude potato block. As the profundity of the potato solid shape builds, it is more submerged and encircled by soil and gets no light at all. The disintegration of yield buildup and change of natural nitrogen (N) into ammonium (NH4) and nitrate (NO3) structures (a.k.a. N mineralization) give wellsprings of plant accessible including potato. The pace of the decay of a crude potato is my point and science reasonable thought. To sum up this whole audit of writing, the crude potato rot rate will be expanded with the profundity of the crude potato. ... <!

Martin Guerre essays
Martin Guerre papers During the time of the Renaissance in France in the sixteenth century, individuals had recharged enthusiasm for learning and qualities. Authors started dismissing acknowledged strict convictions and concentrated more on human instinct. This achieved another lifestyle for individuals in France. In Natalie Zemon Davis The Return of Martin Guerre, a record of a man, Arnaud du Tilh, imitating Martin Guerre gives us direct the lifestyle during this time. A sham, right now, would be especially disapproved of in the public arena and would confront rather cruel outcomes. Davis proposes numerous prospects with respect to the account of Martin Guerre. Initially, had the two men met? Davis suggests that Guerre and du Tilh had, in reality, met in their movements, regardless of whether it had been brief or broad. Had they contrived? Maybe Guerre prepared du Tilh to be such as himself. However, it appears to Davis, Guerre had never met du Tilh. As Davis says, a man du Tilh met who confused him with Guerre started his whimsical plan to manufacture the character of a to some degree wealthy laborer with a home left to him. Whatever the case may have been, du Tilh obliged this plan. Despite the responses to the past expressed inquiries, individuals in the town took this fraud in as the genuine Martin. Maybe this was on the grounds that he told his records of the past so precisely, so exact, that nobody could genuinely deny it was him. In light of that, Davis additionally presents the confusing inquiry with regards to how his own significant other didnt identify he was a fake. Another solid and sensible point is made by Davis. In all likelihood, Bertrande realized he was not her genuine spouse, as Davis accepts she is a to some degree shrewd lady, yet she couldn't have cared less. For a long time, there was a missing job in their family as a dad, spouse, sibling, child, and nephew. Since he restored this void is filled. Life is made simpler on Bertrande, and the remainder of the family also. Davis th... <!

The Perks of Being A James Scholar in Media
The Perks of Being A James Scholar in Media There are a few honors a student can receive, and although there are a few expectations that go along with being an honors student, there are great perks. Right now, Im a James Scholar for the College of Media. But first, a little history about the Edmund J. James Scholar program. Its a university-wide honors program that was founded to encourage the talents of outstanding students. Edmund J. James was actually the fourth president of the University of Illinois. Each college has its own specific requirements on how to become a James Scholar. When applying, you can be admitted as a James Scholar or you can work toward being a James Scholar when youre a freshman, sophomore or junior. I am only speaking from my experience as a James Scholar in Media. I became a James Scholar in Media my junior year after making the Deans List for two straight semesters. One awesome perk of becoming a James Scholar is that you get to pick classes first out of every other student on campus. This perk is worth it because a lot of the popular classes get swiped up by seniors and student-athletes rather quickly. If you love online classes like me, this is a great way to swipe up the online classes before everyone else. But there are requirements and expectations as a James Scholar. You are expected to maintain a 3.5 GPA each semester and are expected to do something out of the classroom to get the honors credit. For the College of Media, they have a few different options Im familiar with on how to earn honors credit for the program. One option is to go on a Media-sponsored study abroad trip. For example, every spring break, there is a James Scholar London trip. Many of my friends have visited the London Eye, Big Ben and the BBC office. Another option to get credit is to do service-learning. You will be paired up with a local Champaign-Urbana nonprofit and you will be able to do a semester-long internship for them. You would do something media-related like creating a newsletter or producing a video for the nonprofit. This would be one of the more fulfilling options for you. Finally, you can turn a course into an honors course. I have done this option four times. The requirements of this is to do an additional project of your interest. Usually, it is a research paper or a PowerPoint presentation on a chosen topic from the course content. I have done really cool projects on history of the University of Illinois satirical newspapers and I am currently finishing up a project for my digital content technologies class about artificial intelligence in films and consumer behavior. For more information on the James Scholar Program in Media, click here. Daniel Class of 2018 Iâm an Advertising major in the College of Media. Iâm from a northwest suburb of Chicago called Buffalo Grove. I chose Illinois because it was the first university in the entire world to offer an Advertising major, which is pretty cool!

The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat - Literature Essay Samples
The Tell-Tale Heart and the Black CatOverwhelming obsession and guilt often lead to deadly consequences. In The Tell-Tale Heart and The Black Cat, Edgar Allan Poe presents us with two men who each commit brutal murders motivated by overwhelming obsession. The narrators differ in their dispositions but fall victim to the same circumstances. The narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart takes pride in the cunningness of his deed and that he is able to recount it with extreme calmness despite his usually nervous state, whereas the narrator of The Black Cat is haunted so horribly by his guilt that he tries to erase the whole event from his memory. Even though the murders are very differentone premeditated, one spurred on by a temporary rageboth narrators are haunted by their dark deeds. As a result of the guilt these two men feel, they ultimately give in to their self-destructive tendencies and cause their own downfall. In the Tell-Tale Heart, the narrator is characterized by his oblivious appro ach to his own madness. In a vain effort to prove his sanity by detailing how carefully he planned the gruesome deed, the narrator makes it abundantly clear from the first that he is dangerously deranged (Howard). Challenging the reader to call him mad only serves to make him seem more insane. He also makes it very clear that he holds nothing but love in his heart for the old man but was driven to the deed because he was tormented beyond distraction by the old mans eye. This shows that the narrator does not lack simple human compassion, but that his obsession with the Evil Eye is driving him to madness. Upon close examination, a sadomasochistic element emerges (Pritchard). The narrator decides to kill the old man and describes with obvious pleasure how calculating he set about to do it (Howard). Even when hes about to kill the old man, he takes so much pleasure in the old mans fear that he may well have laughed. The reader is aware that the narrator has empathy for the man hes about to kill: the old man groaned slightly and the narrator knew that it was the sound of one overcome by deathly fear, for he too had experienced that terror deep in the night. But, the narrator goes on to say, I knew what the old man felt, and pitied him, although I chuckled at heart. This narrators pleasure-driven nature makes the murder only too easy. With extreme calm he dismembers the body and conceals it under the floorboards, making it impossible for anyone to know of the murder. However, like the narrator of The Black Cat, he is unable to accept that he has gotten away with the deed, and ultimately condemns himself. The Black Cat, not unlike The Tell-Tale Heart, deals with a narrator who battles with deception, both of himself and the reader. Despite the narrators explicit claim of sanity in the storys first paragraph, he immediately shows himself self deceived by terming his story a series of mere household events.' He deceives himself by playing down the murder of his wife, while making the cruelty to his favorite pet more than he can bear. The narrator begins his tale by describing his early love of animals. His early reference to admiring the unselfish and self-sacrificing love of animals reveals the narrators blindness; ironically, his scornful words, the paltry friendship and gossamer fidelity of mere Man, apply to himself. This shows that, unlike the narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart, he has a deficiency when it comes to human compassion and love. While he references his love of his cat, he never makes note of loving his wife. Indeed, he admits and dimly perceive[s] that he ha[s] lost the humanity of feeling that his wife retained. Thus the narrators wife becomes a force of good that he must destroy. Also, it seems that this narrator feels guilt and disgust at his deed, even though he will not admit it to himself. Sheer emphasis or proportion in the storythe great number or words he spends on the cats contrasted with the brevity of his remarks about the maltreatment and murder of his wifeindicates the deficiency in both the narrators insight and his feelings. He is blind to the fact that his guilt caused him to put off mentioning his greatest transgression, the murder of his wife, until the very end. It is apparent that the guilt the narrator will not allow himself to feel is the reason he cannot allow himself to get away with the murder. When the brick wall is broken down, the black cat is found perched on the corpses head, one more indication of the narrators guilt and its cause(Prinsky). The narrator cannot bear to relive what he has done, so he breaks down and confesses to the whole thing. Despite the great differences between the two narrators, they share one common characteristic: a suicidal or self-destructive nature. In The Tell-Tale Heart as the police are questioning the narrator and as he is quite sure they have no idea what has transpired he then hear[s] what sound[s] very much like the old mans heart beating agai n, and he bec[omes] very anxious, talking loudly and moving about the room, hoping that the police w[ill] not hear the heartbeat. In his nervousness, he cannot see that it is not the old mans heart, but his own betraying him. Finally, overwrought with the guilt of what he had done he admitt[s] to his crime and urge[s] them to tear up the boards and uncover that hideous heart. The narrators suicidal nature shines through also with his obsession with the eye: The narrator destroys the evil eye, thus ensuring his own destruction, or incarceration at least. Also, while he is murdering the old man, he betrays himself by yelling. Fearful that the neighbors would hear the heartbeat growing increasing louder, the anxious maniac yells as he bludgeons the old man, and the neighbors certainly heard that (Howard). The narrator seemingly sabotages or punishes himself because of the guilt he will not allow himself to feel. In The Black Cat the situation with a self-destructive narrator is very e vident. The events at the end are exactly the same as in The Tell-Tale Heart: the police come to question, the narrator feels proud that he will get away with his crime out of the sheer cunningness of his concealment, and then there is the betrayal. As they [the police] are about to leave the cellar, the narrator, apparently with taunting bravado but really with unconscious guilt that seeks to delay them so he may be arrested and punished, remarks to them on the solidity of the houses walls, rapping with a cane the very spot of the concealed tomb. The narrator, while he doesnt confess outright to his crime, gives the police one more chance to realize his deed. He is, in a way, punishing himself for the many wrongs he has committed. However, by the end, the narrator is still blinded because he cannot see that it was his own fault. Rationalizing to the end, the narrator blames the cat for his misdeeds and capture: the hideous beast whose craft had seduced me into murder, and whose inf orming voice had consigned me to the hangman'(Prinsky). The two narrators in The Tell-Tale Heart and The Black Cat may be very different superficially. One takes delight in cruelty, one takes pride in his compassion for animals. One carefully plans out his deed so as not to be caught, one carries out his deed in a fit of rage. However, both narrators are completely calm thereafter. They each question the reader, almost daring the reader to say that they are mad. Both narrators succeed in deceiving themselves, but they do not succeed in deceiving the reader. The narrator of The Black Cat has a deficiency in human compassion, while the narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart says freely that he loved his victim. But, they have one major characteristic in commonboth men, set on punishing themselves, completely destroy any chance they have at a life or at freedom. Works CitedHoward, Ronald W. Year-round programs and special events include concerts and performances that attract large crowds, college and professional sport leagues that attract attendance between 20,000 and 70,000 fans, golf tournaments, and jazz festivals and concerts. This level of activity, combined with the size and scope of tourist facilities and events is an area of concern for tourist facilities and special events because they have several ââ¬Å"softâ⬠targets, and have the potential to influence terrorist attacks. Because the cityââ¬â¢s population is culturally diverse, Metropolisââ¬â¢ tourist facilities and special events are attractive to domestic and international terrorists and terrorist groups; therefore, it is an essential part of the reactionary plan for the

Macbeth, By William Shakespeare - 975 Words
Since Macbeth believes that he must kill Duncan to achieve his goal of becoming king quickly, Macbeth subdues his feelings and thoughts to become more masculine. From the start, Macbeth recognizes his need to separate his mind from his actions, because his mind overpowers his will to act. Macbeth has the capacity to perform the deeds necessary to achieve his goal; obviously, from the first description of him in the play describing his prowess on the battlefield, he can kill Duncan. However, he is unable to carry them out because he is too caught up in his imaginings. Therefore, instead of overthinking everything, he suppresses his thoughts and begins to act rashly. For instance, he kills Duncan s guards spontaneously, and then plots the deaths of Macduff s family, Banquo, and Fleance, without even consulting his wife. He expresses his need to carry out his actions without extended thought, saying, Strange things I have in head, that will to hand, / Which must be acted ere they may be scanned (3.4.141-2). This quote brings in elements of the meta-theatrical, since Macbeth s plans must be acted by the player onstage. If they aren t being performed onstage, then they are being read and scanned, alluding to the analysis of the play through poetic scansion. Although we do not directly consider metrical elements in this paper, this line still refers to what we are currently doingââ¬âanalyzing the play. Modern History Germany 1918-1945 Free Essays
To what extent did the weaknesses in the Weimar Republic account for the growth and rise to power of the Nazi Party to 1933? The Weimar Republic was created in 1919 with the abdication of Wilhelm II. The new government was the body that signed the Treaty of Versailles, and to many, this was a betrayal. The consequences of Versailles were severe to Germany, and many were looking for someone to blame, the government was the ideal scape goat. We will write a custom essay sample on Modern History Germany 1918-1945 or any similar topic only for you Order Now Communists and the right saw an opportunity to create a state that they wanted, and were prepared to challenge the new republic for this. Many richer Germans had lived well under the Kaiser, and distrusted the new government. This began a long line of challenges that would become the Weimar Republicââ¬â¢s weaknesses and would later on, lead to their defeat and the growth and rise of the Nazi Party. From the start, the new Weimar government faced opposition from both left and right. The Left wing Spartacist group, lead by Luxemburg and Liebknecht, admired the new Russian Communist political system, and with the fall of the Kaiser, saw an opportunity to attempt to place Germany into a similar system. In January 1919 they revolted, and tried to take control of Berlin, with the support of the USDP they proclaimed a new revolutionary government. However, Ebert had already won the support of the military with the Ebert-Groener pact, and the troops suppressed the revolt. This pact was significant, meaning the government had associated itself with the right, and perhaps this early incident is one of the factors which would convince the government to appoint Hitler Chancellor in 1933. The Right, were next to revolt and in 1920 the Kapp Putch revolt occurred. Monarchists seized government buildings in Berlin; and this forced the government to flee to Stuttgart. The rebels however, surrendered on March 17 as unions declared a general strike. Yet again the government had had another close escape. At this stage the political instability was through the roof thanks to the financial implications of the Treaty of Versailles. By 1921, the level of reparations had been fixed to 132,000,000 gold marks. And it was clearly evident that Germany was so weakened by this, that it would not be able to pay. By January 1923, the French were angered at Germanyââ¬â¢s poor lack of payment, and occupied with force, the Ruhr region. The citizens of the Ruhr began to hate the French who were exploiting them, and so again, the people needed someone to blame. Of course this being the same people who had agreed to pay reparations, their government. By November 1923, the situation of hyperinflation had skyrocketed, as small firms collapsed and were bought out at prices far below their real value. Ownership of the German economy became concentrated into the hands of a small few powerful interests. Money was becoming more and more worthless by the day. Burnt constantly, as it became cheaper then firewood itself. The middle classes had their savings devalued considerably, and there was general discontent all over. The Treaty of Versailles was signed by the new government, and this treaty was causing great anguish. The people of Germany had no one to blame but the government, the majority of the country were angered, and it could be considered that with universal criticism, and perhaps some hatred, the new republic was doomed to fail. The extremist Naziââ¬â¢s had only 12 seats in 1928, and had little or no voice in national government. The socialists were in control with 153 seats and had a steady recovery in progress, with no radical changes planned. The government itââ¬â¢s self had progressed from an imperial autocracy to a democratic republic. Universal suffrage came about; meaning their head of state could be changed every seven years if the people became unhappy. From the uplift during the late 1920ââ¬â¢s there was optimism for the republic, the economy, and the German culture. This optimism was rudely interrupted however, by the devastating world depression and the heavily impacting Wall Street crash which meant that ââ¬Å"anyone who bought stocks in mid-1929 and held onto them, saw most of his or her adult life pass by before getting back to evenâ⬠. With this, social breakdown followed, with an increase in crime. Many women turned to prostitution to feed their families and shortly after, Berlin became the centre for experimental artistic movements as well as Nightclubs, cabaret, and Cafes that became notorious for immorality. After this, investment was withdrawn from the economy, causing German to go into decline once again. Unemployment then reaches record levels of six million. With this many people began to turn to Hitler, who preached employment and greatness and promised major improvement. This was reflected in the Nazis then gaining 107 seats in the 1930 election. Showing that people were looking for a proper extremist solution. There were thousands of demonstrations against the government from most political groups throughout but these were overpowered by the 1,300 Nazi demonstrations that took place during 1930 alone. Bruing then relied on decrees to keep order. The depression created the very situation that Hitler had been waiting for. The Naziââ¬â¢s believed that only a national catastrophe would see them win power, and they were correct. The Naziââ¬â¢s stirred up opposition to the government and republic, by linking the government to Versailles, and linking Versailles and the Weimar Republic to all of Germanyââ¬â¢s problems. As Hitler had such a wide political appeal, the Nazis then began to blame other political groups, especially the communists. Hitler was an excellent orator, and had a strong personality which promised greatness for the German people. He became attractive to the modern day worker and the middle classes as he promised secure employment at a time when people were distrusting of their own current government. Hitler also promised that he would act legally and with order. Another appeal which gave peace to the German people. However, the elections of 1932 saw the Naziââ¬â¢s lose two million votes at the expense of the communists, the KPD. The country was showing signs of splitting into two. But the one thing that both groups had in common was that they wanted to change the system of government. This did not sit well with the Weimar republic. By now it was clear that the country was going to go one way and the republic was doomed. There was a great fear of civil war amongst the people, and they had to choose who they wanted to prevent this, and unite the country once again. By March 1933 it was clear that more people had turned to the Nazis, who gained 92 more seats, and the communists lost 19. The Nazi revolution was beginning. By this time, the Reichstag saw a Nazi majority and was headed by a Nazi Chancellor. Key Nazi points were soon introduced as law. Point 25 of the Nazi 25 points, Centralisation, was evident when Hitler subordinated the local governments. By May, trade unions were banned, the S. D. P was dissolved, and by June, the Nazi party was the only legal party. When Hindenburg died a year later, Hitler appointed himself Fuhrer, and the Weimar republic came to an end. From the very start, I gained the perspective that many believed that the weak foundations in which the republic was built on, combined with the roles of the conservative eliteââ¬â¢s in German society as well as the Great Depression were the strong influences which lead to the downfall of the Weimar Republic and the rise of the Nazis. Clearly the Weimar republic faced opposition from both sides of the political spectrum. This created potential for the reintroduction of a monarch, or even a communist state, and several attempted revolutions occurred. The public blamed their problems on the Treaty of Versailles, and in turn, blamed the government that signed it. I think we can agree that from the 1930s the Weimar Republic was surely doomed, when the country was splitting into two groups, the left and the right, with both wanting an end to the republic, and a change to another political system, communist or Nazi. The Weimar was a rushed and often referred to as a ââ¬Ëmistaken democracy, with a dysfunctional nature, that aided in the rise of Nazism. ââ¬â¢ The Weimar republic started in chaos, spent much of its short life in chaos, and dissolved without putting up much resistance. But although it was weakened by these many evolving issues, I believe that the Weimar Republic was not the only factor to Hitlerââ¬â¢s rise as his use of aggressive and persuasive propaganda with the backup of violence, brainwashed many people into believing that he was the only option for Germany to follow. I believe that no one factor was respons ible for the collapse of the Weimar republic, but it being a combination of factors and circumstances that lead to itââ¬â¢s down fall and the growth and rise of power that was then passed to the strategic and overbearing Nazi Party lead by Hitler in 1933. Adrienne Kennedy Essay Example For Students
Adrienne Kennedy Essay Like the shy, obsessive heroines of her earliest plays, Adrienne Kennedy led something of a sheltered childhood. She grew up in the 1930s and 40s in the integrated and culturally diverse middle-class neighborhoods of Mt. Pleasant and Glenville on the east side of Cleveland. It was an exciting neighborhood, an exciting mixture of people, immigrant and black, she recalls. All day, youre listening to people speaking different languages, speaking Italian, speaking Yiddish, and I found that thrilling. Her parents, both college-educated professionals and active members of Clevelands black community, instilled in her a love of learning that made her first a voracious reader and later a vivid writer. The uniforms worn by her Italian classmates on their way to catechism, the ominous air-raid tower and siren in the school playground across the street, her mothers chilled jello with bananas and vanilla wafers sharply focused images of childhood like these weave their way through her work. Not until she matriculated at Ohio State University in 1949 did Kennedy encounter prejudice and racism firsthand. Sororities were segregated and blacks were actively discouraged from pursuing an English major. Kennedys new play, Ohio State Murders, springs from her undergraduate experience and its lifelong scarring effects. The play reflects her abiding feeling that nothing has changed for American blacks, that American blacks would have been better off leaving this country. She says this without bitterness or self-pity but with a clear sense of indignity during a conversation in which she is, by turns, bashful, ebullient, elegant, silly and thoughtful. Kennedys plays have always been disarmingly autobiographical. Ive seemingly only been successful in creating these heroines who are very close variations of me and Im not necessarily able to understand it, Kennedy admits. From Sarah in Funnyhouse of a Negro, the English major and nigger of torment who hangs herself in her room, to Suzanne Alexander in Ohio State Murders, the successful African-American writer who returns to her alma mater to give a lecture on the violent imagery in her work, Kennedy has crafted dramatic personae whose struggle for identity parallels her own. Each play pulsates with the question that Clara asks outright in A Movie Star Has to Star in Black and White: Each day I wonder with what or with whom can I co-exist in a true union. Some have dismissed Kennedys work as self-involved or impenetrable, but this view is impatient, at best. Her achievement over the past 30 years has been to take the events and the images of her own life and convert them into a mythology of one, a mythology of the self, a hermetic landscape of the mind rendered in such crystalline detail that it emanates a strange, universal truth. Kennedys early plays take the form of interior monologues for the stage. Dense and violent in their imagery, often dazzling and bizarre in their theatricality, they are psychic collages governed by a troubled and erratic stream of consciousness. Each of these plays operates like a prism, which refracts its heroine into fragments, giving her multiple identities which resist reintegration. The Owl Answers centers on the character of SHE who is CLARA PASSMORE who is the VIRGIN MARY who is the BASTARD who is the OWL. In Funnyhouse of a Negro, each of four historical characters Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Hapsburg, Jesus Christ and Patrice Lumumba appear as one of herselves, referring to Sarah, the Negro of the title. In these plays, the focus shifts from the central character to one of her alter egos at the blink of an eye, to dizzying effect. In contrast, Ohio State Murders is relatively conventional, more of an exterior monologue, and its protagonist is remarkably intact. The action takes place late at night, deep in the stacks of the Ohio State University library as the writer Suzanne Alexander rehearses out loud what she plans to say in her guest lecture the next day. She speaks of her burgeoning love of literature, and of the birth and death of her twin daughters, conceived out of wedlock and murdered as infants. Periodically, lyrically, her spoken memories of her college years give way to actual flashbacks, some only a few lines long, as actors emerge from the wings to play her dormitory roommate, an old boyfriend, herself as a co-ed, and a young English professor who embodies both the bounty and the violence of the majority white culture which attracts and repels her. .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 , .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .postImageUrl , .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 , .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:hover , .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:visited , .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:active { border:0!important; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:active , .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96 .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u97d66ee012be8fe8feb0c15ac2f6df96:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Choose one scene from "The Crucible" EssayOhio State Murders unfolds like a murder mystery, a genre which fascinates Kennedy, but it is a mystery muted by memory about a crime that it is too late to solve. Instead of the explosive sense of danger which charged her earlier plays, this one is governed by a beguiling serenity which has come to characterize the playwright herself. I wouldnt be alive if I had remained as fragmented as that person who wrote Funnyhouse and The Owl Answers, she claims. I would have committed suicide or gone insane or something. Im 60 now. Over the years, these people came together inside me. Im very at ease by now with all these influences that we re swirling around inside me. Kennedy credits her survival to writing and teaching and the composure required to raise two sons. If she has mellowed, her serenity is a quiet without peace. I sense menace in a lot of things, she confesses. Again, I dont want to analyze it, but I can be going down to NYU on the subway, or I can be walking around the sunny Stanford campus, and I see these rows of columns and I feel menaced. Thats the quality Im looking for in the stuff that I write. I feel a hidden darkness underneath things that is in opposition to me in some way. That hidden darkness has seen the light of day in myriad forms over the past five years, an unusually prolific period for Kennedy. First came her widely heralded scrapbook of memories, People Who Led to My Plays, and then Deadly Triplets: A Theater Mystery and Journal. Ohio State Murders is one of four recent theatre pieces about the writer Suzanne Alexander, the others being She Talks to Beethoven, The Dramatic Circle (a radio play commissioned and produced by WNYCs Radio Stage) and a monologue called The Film Club. The Alexander Plays will be published later this year by University of Minnesota Press, as will an anthology of essays on Kennedys work, edited by Paul K. Bryant-Jackson and Lois More Overbeck and titled Intersecting Boundaries. Ohio State Murders, commissioned three years ago by Great Lakes Theatre Festival artistic director Gerald Freedman and developed by him in a production a year ago at Yale Repertory Theatres Winterfest, received its official premiere in March as the centerpiece of a month-long celebration of Kennedys life and work. Orchestrated by GLTF dramaturg Margaret Lynch, the Adrienne Kennedy Festival also included a day-long symposium at Cleveland State University; a stage adaptation of People Who Led to My Plays, which toured local schools, libraries, churches and senior centers; and a community-history project conducted at three public schools she attended as a child. This massive effort to broaden public awareness of Kennedys work amounted to nothing less than the loving repatriation of one of Clevelands long-neglected native daughters. The GLTF production of Ohio State Murders marked Kennedys first professional production in her hometown; accordingly, opening night, March 7, 1992, was by order of the mayor Adrienne Kennedy Day in Cleveland. It was a fitting and poignant tribute to a woman the festival proclamation described as a poet of the theatre, a poet of gentility and pain, a poet of generosity and rage.

Review of the Broadway Theatre Essays
Review of the Broadway Theatre Essays Review of the Broadway Theatre Essay Review of the Broadway Theatre Essay In this report I will be reviewing the present situation at the Broadway Theatre. The staffing structure This staffing structure shows that the Owner is in charge of the Manager even though he plays no part in the running of the business. In turn the Manager has a span of control over of his 3 assistant managers. The 3 assistant managers are each in charge of the department managers. This means that the Catering Manager is in charge of the Barperson; the Sales Manager is in charge of the Bookings Clerk and the Administrator is in charge of the Secretary. Their is a clear chain of command shown by this organisation chart, this is shown by the vertical lines of authority. Orders will passed down the chain until they are carried out. The horizontal line across the assistant managers shows they are of equal rank. Staff Responsibilities Manager The Manager is responsible for all aspects of day-to-day management; he is also responsible for his 3 assistant managers. Assistant Manager The Assistant Manager deputises for the Manager and is responsible for morning and afternoon events. Assistant Manager The Assistant Manager deputises for the Manager and is responsible for the administration, sales, and catering staff. Assistant Manager The Assistant Manager deputises for the Manager and is responsible for the matinees and evening events. Administrator Is responsible for all the administration as well as the supervision of the office staff. Sales Manager The Sales Manager is responsible for sales and marketing, promotions and advertising and the supervision of the bookings office. Catering Manager The Catering Manager is responsible for the preparation and sale of refreshments. Secretary Is responsible for general word processing and office work. Bookings Clerk Is responsible for ticket sales. Barperson Is responsible for bar sales. Business costs and revenues The costs of the business can be split into 4 sections, they are as follows: buildings, administration, publicity and performances. EXPENDITURE/COSTS à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½000s Buildings : Council rent 40 Non-domestic rates 15 Insurance 10 Water rates 2 Heating 10 Lighting ; Electricity 10 Cleaning 5 Repairs and Maintenance 5 Administration : Salaries and Wages 110 Stationary 2 Postage 2 Telephone 2 Printing (tickets ; programmes) 10 Accountancy fee 2 Publicity : Advertising 20 Printing (posters ; leaflets) 10 Performances : Consumables sets, floral displays ect 20 Hire of companies/performers 100 TOTAL EXPENDITURE/COSTS 375 Their are 3 types of costs; fixed costs, variable costs and semi variable costs. Fixed costs are costs which do not change, they are not affected my the amount of sales or production. Variable are costs which can vary, they are affected by the amount of sales or production. Semi variable costs which can be subject to variation. Sales/revenues Sources of revenue: INCOME à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½000s Grants and sponsorship 100 Advertising 10 Sales : Box office 250 Foyer events 15 Programmes 15 Catering 50 TOTAL NON-SALES 110 TOTAL SALES 330 TOTAL INCOME 440 To calculate the profit : Cash flow Cash flow refers money that is coming into the business (receipts) and money that is being paid out (payments) over a period of time. A liquidity problem relates to cash flow. A liquidity problem is when a business has a lack of cash when it is needed to pay bills, wages ect. In other words a liquidity problem is when a businesss receipts can not keep pace with its payments. This is one reason why businesss produce a cash flow forecast. A cash flow forecast is a statement that a business will produce of accurate cash receipts and payments over a period of time such as a year. This forecast will indicate how profitable a business will be over the set period of time. If the business is doing well the cash flow forecast will show that at the end of the year a substantial profit will be made and that their is a market for the sales to be maintained or increased. A bank will often require a cash flow forecast when giving a firm an overdraft facility to solve any liquidity problems. An other way of solving a liquidity problem is to approach a factor. A factor is a firm which will take over a businesss debts for a fee. This can be an effective way of solving a liquidity problem as the firm will not have to employ any debt collectors. However, the fee that the factor will charge will be an expensive one. Therefore, the firm may try to delay the payments of their bills or even ask that receipts are paid more promptly. The components of a cash flow forecast include: The cash flow forecast breaks down the receipts and payments to give the total receipts at the end of each month and the total payments. Then, by subtracting the total payments for the end of the month from the total receipts for the end of the month, the net cash flow is calculated. This net cash flow is added to the opening balance for the month to give the closing balance for the month. The closing balance for the month then becomes next months opening balance. Theatres grounds Located within the theatres grounds is a disused bandstand, a car park, and a duck pond. The rest of the area owned by the theatre is made up of open land and trees. The theatre itself is situated on a road leading to the town centre, however their is no public transport from the town after 8.00 p.m. Inside the theatre The theatre has 3 main public entrances and exits. There is one main entrance at the front leading into the foyer; another at the right-hand side of the theatre; and a ramp on the left-hand side of the theatre for wheelchair access. Performances and shows For a given week in the theatre these our the opening times: The theatre is open all day on : Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. It is closed all day Monday; in the afternoon on Tuesday; and is only open in the morning on Sunday. The theatre offers a 2 hour bingo session twice a week. Once on Tuesday morning and once on Thursday morning. The Broadway comedy Never a Dull Moment is on 5 times throughout the week; once on Thursday, twice on Friday, and twice on Saturday. As it stands the maximum number of events the theatre offers in a day is 3; a morning, afternoon and evening event. All the events have a charge ranging from à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½2 to à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½15 per seat, except for the Open Morning on Friday which is open to everyone for no charge. The rest of the events on offer including Bop till you Drop and All Work and no Play are largely aimed at the older generation. Seat prices and Audience Capacity SEAT PRICES STALLS CIRCLE à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ Bingo 2 Films Matin(e 5 7 Evening 7 10 Plays Matin(e 10 7 Evening 15 10 Entrance fee for all events in Broadway Foyer à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½2 AUDIENCE CAPACITY TOTAL SEATS Stalls 100 Circle 100 Foyer 100 What appear to be the key problems with the Broadway Theatre The first problem that came to my attention when reviewing the theatre was the staffing structure. This appears to be a problem as their are 3 assistant managers all of equal rank, all deputising for the Manager; surely this is not necessary. To increase the businesss profit margins the business needs to make costs cuts. An example of unnecessary costs are a number of the fixed costs, such as consumables which include floral displays totalling à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½20,000. Clearly the business can not afford to be spending such amounts when the profit retained is marginal. It appears the theatre is not taking full advantage of what it has to offer the public. Examples of this include the theatre being closed for what adds up to 2 days in total. This is clearly an area for improvement as whether or not the theatre is open or closed it will have to pay its fixed costs which total a staggering à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½361,000 per annum. Therefore it would make sense to address this problem. Also the theatre does not have all of its available seats for sale when the bingo is on. It would make good sense for theatre to use all of its resources available. The theatre puts on an event called Never a Dull Moment this event is on 5 times during the course of the week and surely the same person would not wish to watch the show 5 times. This presents a problem which needs to be addressed in order to encourage people to return to the theatre time and time again. It is not good enough to just attract a customer for a one-off occasion you should aim to gain their regular custom and build up a sound reputation. Located within the theatres grounds is a disused bandstand that presents a whole window of opportunity. The theatre would do hard to go wrong if they brought it back into use and made a feature of it primarily for the summer months. The Broadway Theatre has a lot to offer the public, however if many of the public do not have regular access to theatre after 8.00 p.m. then the theatre can not demonstrate what it has to offer to the public. It is vital that the theatre addresss this problem in order to boost ticket sales. It also appears that the theatres target audience is the elder generation. At first glance this may not appear to be a problem, however, their are as many old people as young people who all enjoy attending the theatre it would be an idea to also accomodate younger people. This concludes my findings for the key problems I have identified.

Alternative media Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 1
Alternative media - Case Study Example Itââ¬â¢s obvious this is a subtle dig at the propensity of tobacco to be a cancer causing agent. In other such co-optations Adbusterââ¬â¢s parodied Tiger Woods as a picture of the Nike logo in the background was featured and then a swoosh sign within Tiger Woodââ¬â¢s mouth was inserted. The implications for this are clear, as it demonstrates a political commentary on the means by which Nike has purchased Woodââ¬â¢s advertising power and voice. Another image has the slogan ââ¬ËBuy Nothing Dayââ¬â¢ with a giant credit card running down the street displayed. In these regards, there are ultimately two means of constructing these forms of alternative commercialization. The first being the alteration of existing imagery in an effort to play on the power effects contained in these images. The second method is the direct construction of methods that call into question mainstream social ideals, for instance consumerism. References "Culture Jammers." Adbusters. N.p., 2011. Comparative Analysis of Free Market Economy and Mixed Economy Essay
Comparative Analysis of Free Market Economy and Mixed Economy - Essay Example The essay ââ¬Å"Comparative Analysis of Free Market Economy and Mixed Economyâ⬠highlights main advantages and limitations of the two prevailing economic systems in a modern world. An economic system comprises the configuration of institutions and organisations that specify property relations within a given society or that channel and influence the distribution of goods and services. In a traditional economic system, there is no control and everyone can produce goods for themselves. The countries which follow this economic system have low GDP and they have high government regulation of business. On the other hand, a planned economic system is the one where all economic activities are planned by the government of the day. The government has the overall say in how businesses should operate. A free market economy is defined as ââ¬Å"a market without any regulation. In other cases it means markets in which prices are free to reflect supply and demand. Sometimes it means competitive markets free of monopoly or concentration. In a free market economy system, individuals are encouraged to produce and make gains for themselves and the economic system is driven by profit motives. It can also be seen that price mechanism determines the allocation of resources. For instance, the law of demand and supply comes into play. A free market economic system has its own limitations A mixed economy is regulated and its performance is mainly determined by the economic policies promulgated and implemented by the government. ... It can also be seen that price mechanism determines the allocation of resources. For instance, the law of demand and supply comes into play. Basically, in a free market economy, the quantity of products offered in the market is mainly determined by the amount of price the consumers are willing to pay. Kotler and Armstrong (2004) state that the price people are willing to pay for a certain commodity correlates with the quantity of goods supplied. In economics, the law of demand and supply states that the price of the product shapes the quantity of goods that can be produced at a particular period. This law goes on to state that the higher the price, the higher the goods the producers are willing to supply (Benassy, 1988). High price means high supply of products and this entails that high profits are likely to be generated. On the other hand, a mixed economy is a combination of a free market and planned economies. A mixed economy is regulated and its performance is mainly determined b y the economic policies promulgated and implemented by the government. To a certain extent, it can be seen that a free market economy is effective compared to a mixed economy. According to Pryor (2006), countries with a business-oriented or free market economic system have a significantly higher rate of economic growth. The main reason for this is that they can generate more revenue from free trade taking place. Unlike in a regulated economy, a free market economic system is liberal and the flow of money is not restricted. In a free market economy, the consumers have a variety of choice of goods offered since the manufacturers of these commodities are mainly concerned with satisfying the needs of the customers. As long as the consumers are willing to pay the price,

The Importance Of Pre-Modern Society
The Importance Of Pre-Modern Society Human history can be divided into three phases: pre-modern, modern and post modern. There is no definite beginning or end to each of these phases; rather they merge into one another, as not all societies moved forward at the same time. Although most industrialised countries are now considered post modern, a large proportion of the Third World remains modern or in some cases pre- modern. Pre- Modern is the period in society which came prior to Modernity, which began in Europe after the introduction of Industrial society and large scale production. Sociology and modernity are closely intertwined, but it has also been argued that sociology is actually a product of modernity. During this piece I will examine pre- modern society and discuss some of the reasons why the study of this era is important for sociology. What is Pre- modern Society? The pre-modern era spans from before history and can be separated into two phases, before and after settled agriculture. Before settled agriculture, society lives off the land, hunting and gathering. An example of a hunter- gatherer society that exists today is the Arctic foragers, who occupy the circumpolar region of the earth. Due to the lack of vegetation in this area of the world, most Arctic foragers are forced to live on a diet of meat. Many Arctic people are extremely mobile like the feudal societies of pre- modern times. Pre-modern society: The term pre- modern, covers a number of different societal forms: hunter-gatherer, agrarian, horticultural, pastoral and non-industrial. Pre-modern social forms have now virtually disappeared, although they are still in existence in some of todays societies, therefore pre- modern cannot be defined in terms of historical development. In this respect, pre-modern societies can be characterised by a combination of economic, political and cultural circumstances. In pre-modern society, work was not highly specialised and the number of roles necessary to produce things were relatively small, therefore the division of labour was simple when compared to modern societies. Most of the labour forces engaged in agricultural activity and produced food through subsistence farming. The majority of pre-industrial groups had standards of living not much above survival, meaning that most of the population were focused on producing only enough goods for means of survival. The rise of settled agricultural villages meant the build up of storable produce, which represented a cultural advance for civilisation. With the development of storage, in some rare cases came some social unrest, as what could be stored could also be stolen. It should be noted here that in pre- modern times there was very little deviance, as communities were extremely close knit and everybody knew each other. Pre- Modern society was a time without class distinctions and people shared the same sense of values. In Pre- Modern times, a persons sense of purpose was expressed through a faith. Religious officials held the positions of power within the communities and were the intermediaries to the general masses. The population of pre-modern times saw God as the main entity and those closest to him, for example the religious officials, were seen as the community leaders. Persons in pre- modern society did not see themselves as having an individual identity rather a group identity. Social life in pre-modern society also often had religion at its core. Villages were divided into parishes and the observance of religion took place at a community level. In post modern society, the influence of religion appears to have lessened, although it formed the basis for modern penal laws, which regulate human behaviour like religion did in pre- modern times. Industrialisation and the making of Modern Society: In order to understand why the study of pre- modern times is vital to sociology, it is important to look to the Industrial Revolution, as this was a time of great change for European society, and the crossing over from pre- modern to modern society. Industrialisation is the process whereby social and economic change transforms a pre- industrial society into an industrial one. Industrialisation also introduces a form of philosophical change, where people take a different attitude towards their perception of nature. During the Industrial revolution, an economy based on manual labour was replaced by one taken over by industry and the manufacture of machinery. Rapid industrialisation cost many craft workers their jobs and scores of weavers also found themselves unemployed as they could not compete with machinery. Many unemployed workers turned their anger towards the machines that had taken their jobs and began destroying factories and machinery. These activists became known as Luddites and became extremely popular. The British government took drastic measures against the Luddites using the army to protect the factories. The Industrial Revolution saw the emergence of class, urbanisation and the bad conditions in which people had to live and work in. Marxism essentially began as a reaction to the Industrial Revolution. As the Industrial Revolution progressed so did the gap between class structures. According to Karl Marx, industrialisation polarised society into the bourgeoisie, and the much larger proletariat. Ordinary working people found increased opportunity for employment in the mills and factories and in some cases had no choice but to move to the towns and cities in search of work. By the early 1900s up to eighty per cent of the population of Britain lived in urban centres (Kumar, 1978, cited in Bilton et al, p.28). Using the clock to time ones self, as a basis of social organisation, was an indicator of the emergence of a modern society. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries both agricultural and manufacturing labour became set by the clock in a way that was very different to pre-modern production. In pre-modern times factors such as hours of daylight set work rhythms, whereas the factories were regulated by the clock, labour was synchronised and took place for a certain number of hours each day and on particular days of the week. For the factory owners and their employees, time now equalled money. The working conditions were often strict with long working hours and a pace that was set by machinery and production. With the Industrial Revolution came an increase in population. Education was still limited and therefore children were expected to work. Child labour was appealing to employers as it was cheaper than employing an adult yet productivity was similar. The machines did not require strength to operate and there were no experienced adult labourers as the system was completely new. By the eighteenth century there was only around thirty percent of the population who engaged in agricultural activity, this enables us to gain some idea of the nature of modern society and the economic changes that took place as modern society developed. The majority of ordinary people were greatly affected by capitalism and industrial production. By the late 1900s Englands Black Country was one of the most industrialised parts of the United Kingdom and in the 1830s was described in the following way; The earth seems to have turned inside out. The coal. is blazing on the surface by day and by night the country is flowing with fire, and the smoke of the ironworks hangs over it. There is a rumbling and clanking of iron forges and rolling mills. Workmen covered in smut, and with fierce white eyes, are seen moving amongst the glowing iron and dull thud of the forge-hammers. (Jennings,1985 p.165) Conclusion: The transition from pre- modernity into modernity was important for sociology as people began to see that society was something important to study. Some argue that this was when sociology began as the emergence of modern societies created a new intellectual world aware of its surroundings and concerned with acquisition of knowledge. Sociology is concerned with the study of human societies.a society is a cluster, or a system of institutionalised modes of conduct.sociology has as its main focus the study of institutions of the advanced or the industrialised societies and of the conditions of transformation of those institutions. (Giddens 1982) As modernity took form, changes in social attitudes within society occurred making society itself interesting to others. Unlike the static pre- modern society, modern societies appear to have created many different groups, causing new and interesting interactions between people. In the pre- modern era, relationships between people in society were extremely similar and perhaps uneventful and society had been static, therefore sociology was not required.
